April Reopening: How You Can Prepare

With roots abound, split ends and colours fading, we are all anxiously anticipating the reopening of the hairdressers; bring on April and that long-awaited appointment with your stylist! After so many months without the professional touch, you’re bound to be thinking about what direction you’d like your hair to go in...

You know that the first thing your hairdresser will ask is ‘So what do you want to do today?’ and this can be a minefield! You might have an image in your head, but how do you accurately describe it? Or you might like a photo of a hairstyle, but only certain aspects of it. Follow our useful tips and tricks to help your stylist understand what you really want – and let us help you get that perfect post-lockdown hair!

1. Think it over

Before you come in, have a really good think about what you’d like your hair outcome to be! Make a list of every thing you love about your hair as it is now, and everything you’re not a fan of. The aim is that when you leave our salon, you’ll look in the mirror and fall in love!

2. Honesty is the best policy

Don’t be afraid to be blunt and honest with your hairdresser; we aren’t mind-readers and all we want is for you to have the hair of your dreams – so tell us how we can achieve that! Sometimes the products you use or medication you take can have adverse effects with certain treatments, so if a stylist asks, it's best to be honest! We are a judgement-free environment; our goal is to have you leave the salon with a big smile on your face and full of that radiant confidence that only comes with incredible hair!

3. Reference

Find a few pictures of styles/ colours that you like and have them readily available on your phone or as a print out. Even if you have a few specific aspects from a few different pics (e.g. I like the fringe of this and the colour of that) that will hugely help the stylist in creating your perfect ‘jigsaw.’

4. Are you new to us?

If you’ve never visited Freshair before, welcome! We are delighted to have you. We’d recommend booking a consultation first, as this will provide you with an opportunity to discuss your hair ideas with the stylist at your leisure. This will remove pressure from your appointment and allow us to get the correct amount of time booked in for your treatments.

5. Social sensation

So you’ve seen a gorgeous hair pic on Instagram – but how did they even achieve that affect? Is that ombré? Bayalage? Highlights? You want to recreate it but you aren’t sure what ‘it’ is! Talk to your stylist, show them the reference, and they can explain how the look is achieved, if it's possible for your hair type and estimate the cost. Some social pictures have filters on – meaning the actual look might not be achievable exactly as shown. Sometimes, the look will take several appointments, and involve more time and products than you realise as a casual viewer at first glance. This can all add up, so make sure you have a conversation with your stylist.

6. Take the professional advice

Sometimes we go in with an idea of what we’d like our hair to be – but it isn’t always possible. Some hair types won’t respond well to some treatments. Take the advice of the pros and be open to suggestion; your hairdresser knows your face shape, skin tone, hair density etc and as such they know what would look great on you! Our stylists will always be honest about the best look for you: much better than paying for something that wouldn’t necessarily suit!

7. Question, question, question

Don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you need to! Our stylist love to talk our wonderful customers, and are happy to answer any questions you may have! Please don’t feel embarrassed, its so important to make sure you’re achieving your #hairgoals!

If you have any questions, we are always here to help (even though we aren’t yet open!) Connect with us through Facebook (www.facebook.com/freshairsoton) or Instagram (freshair.salon).

We can’t wait to see you all and help you achieve your perfect, post-lockdown hair!
